Dunedin Beekeepers' Club Meeting
An evening meeting will be held at the Malcam Trust Rooms at 7pm this Thursday.
Otto Hyink will be speaking about the research project he is involved in with the University of Otago for the next season or two where they are going to be taking pollen samples from around the city (and eventually further afield). These pollen samples will be sorted and sequenced to see exactly what the bees are foraging on. He would like to speak to our bee club members about the project and, potentially, involve some members in the project (by sampling pollen from their hives).
Dr Andrew Cridge is the lead scientist for this project.
After their presentation, there will be information and discussions about early spring management, e.g. feeding, varroa treatments and swarm prevention/catching.
NB This meeting will replace the meeting set down for Saturday 10 August.
